Let the Games Begin - Team Building at Intundla

Let the Games Begin – Team Building at Intundla

Recognising the importance of a good working environment, Intundla Game Lodge has built up a reputation over the years for hosting the most exciting and adventurous teambuilding programmes that are simply unmatchable and includes activities that will enhance social relations between co-workers while encouraging communication, teamwork and generally get a better understanding of each other and the working environment.

Why do teambuilding at Intundla Game Lodge?

Teambuilding exercises are a great way for companies to challenge individuals in an out-of-office environment while promoting and developing positive attitudes amongst co-workers.  Participating in such an event has the ability to promote leadership, develop effective communication and increase team morale while enhancing problem-solving and analytical skills.  It also leaves teams with a sense of achievement and a shared experience of success. The benefits of participating and hosting a teambuilding exercise are not only to the advantage of the business but also to individual growth.

World class teambuilding

On a specially designed course, teammates must work together to reach a collective goal by participating in challenges that entail an escape from a “prisoner of war camp” environment while avoiding alarms and traps.  By working together, teammates have to cross small obstacles, collect selected tools, unlock gates, eliminate “guards” and unravel a password to reach friendly forces.  In typical survivor-style, this exhilarating and fun adventurous activity encourages the support of others while improving teamwork and working relations.

Enjoy more activities while extending your stay

Apart from various survival games, Intundla Game Lodge also offers alternative activities that include rock climbing, abseiling, archery, laser pigeon shooting, paintball, canoe games and a popular raft building challenge.  Alternatively, companies or small businesses can opt for other activities like a potjiekos competition, a cocktail competition or an exciting and insightful Intundla game drive. Apart from activities, Intundla also offers luxury accommodation so a day with fun-filled activities can change into a memorable weekend. Why rush home when you can stay and enjoy the beauty of the Game Lodge surroundings.

Challenge your team to an exciting and unforgettable experience.  Contact us and book your teambuilding adventure today!

Get Married in a Winter Wonderland

Get Married in a Winter Wonderland

Get Married in a Winter Wonderland at Intundla Game Lodge & Bush Spa - Exclusively Yours!

Getting engaged is a very special moment in one's life and when inviting your friends and family to that memorable day, they might expect an invitation for the wedding during the warmer spring or summer months, but what if you have something else in mind? Winter weddings are becoming more and more popular for a number of different reasons and can be just as stylish and elaborate as a wedding during any other seasons of the year.  Here are four things to consider when planning your fabulous winter wedding.

Dress for the season

When choosing your dress it is important to be aware of the conditions of your venue and its surroundings. For example, a majority of brides pick strapless dresses for there ceremony, and although beautiful, be prepared by adding something warm and stylish to your dress as well as for the bridesmaids.  Ask your venue host what preparations they take or are prepared to take to make your venue warmer if needed.

Create a warm atmosphere

Just because it is cold outside does not mean it has to be cold inside.  Choosing the correct colour scheme like red, yellow and orange, as well as accompanying décor, like candles is a sure way of creating a warm, romantic and intimate feeling indoors. Also remember that your guests will already be dressed in warm clothing, meaning that although you don’t want anyone to get cold, you don’t want them, or yourself, to be too warm.

Season friendly Menu

When compiling your menu it is important to select season-friendly foods that will warm the belly from inside. This does not mean hot and spicy food, but rather warm starters and deserts that does not include ice-creams or any frozen treats.

Timing is everything

Sunsets come earlier in winter than in any other season which means that your wedding will most likely start sooner rather than late in the evening.  This is especially important when booking a photographer.  The last thing you want is wedding photos taken in the dark.

At Intundla we can provide you with everything you require for a perfect winter wedding. Secure your date by contacting us today!

opportunities dont just happen team building

Good Business Practice for 2018

Opportunities are abound but they are only opportunities if you can commit to them

We all want to get the most out of the year and at the end of 2017 it will be great to look back at the year’s growth and achievements and feel proud about the part we played in making it all happen.

Whatever opportunities we discover along our journey this year, we will all be expecting the same results – namely growth and improvement. To be better and have more – a stronger business, more clients, a bigger paycheck, better personal relationships, better health…
When it comes to everyday business these ‘opportunities’ seldom look like the stuff of dreams – out of the box, ready to go and handed to us on a silver platter. Most opportunities appear barely formed, a glimmer of future potential, and demand our vision, commitment and effort before they ultimately produce results.
Like a mentor needs to teach their pupil well and lead by example, opportunities need an environment of good business practices in which to flourish.

Cast you Goals in stone and your plans in sand

A goal without a plan is just a wish

Since no plan survives contact with reality, we need to be ready to adjust to new information and keep learning. Be prepared to make some mistakes in reaching for a goal. Learn as a team to move on from a mistake and resolve to grow from the experience.

Connect with your team

Nothing happens in a vacuum and no man is an island

A connected, focused and cohesive team is a thing of beauty to see in action. Team Building is an effective tool to forge stronger bonds, trust and improve overall communication and understanding in a team. A strong team will be more likely to realise their goals in a shorter period of time than a weaker team. Instead of using Team Building later in the year as a corrective tool, use Team Building as a tool early in the year to get the team focussed and on track. And then keep the momentum going by planning further Team Building sessions during the year.

Communication is the key

Without communication there is no understanding

One of the most important aspects of good communication is, to be honest. One of the hardest communication skills is the courage to say what you think at the right time and to the right people when it matters most.  Remember listening without formulating your response is the core of effective communication.

Honesty wins the day

If it’s not right don’t do it, if it’s not true don’t say it

We are all accountable for our own actions and it is important to recognise our responsibility in our actions. If you did something wrong or regrettable take ownership of the action and take steps to correct the situation. Things swept under the mat find their way out, usually explosively, and lies get caught out. Honesty can be difficult in the short-term but you will certainly sleep better in the long run.

You need to be the change you want to see” don’t wait for someone else to get the ball rolling, make a personal effort to get the year off to a great start.

Start your year on the right foot

intundla-game-lodge-activities-canoeing

Clear your mind by spending some time Canoeing at Intundla

The best thing about canoeing at Intundla is that once you push yourself off from the grassy banks, you are completely free to relax. There are no interferences from the outside world (make sure you leave your cell phone in your room), no more demands, you are ‘out of reach’. Making canoeing the ideal solution when you want to get away, for a short while, from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Let the stress go and allow your mind to unwind

Canoeing allows you to go at your own speed as slow as you like or to push yourself for a few sprints. Which is good for the blood flow and general mental health. Gliding over the glassy water, focusing on nothing but the light lapping of the water against the hull and the gurgling of the paddle as it is drawn through the water, lets your mind relax in a way that is not un-similar to meditation. The freedom and exhilaration that comes from gliding through the water can be quite refreshing.
Share the experience with your friends and family
The dam at Intundla has several canoes available for use. You can play in the dam with friends or take a scenic trip to get a little workout and to explore the beauty of your surroundings. If you have some fishing gear drop a line and see if you can entice a black bass or two to take the bait. Read more: Fishing for Bass at Intundla

To have a fun time canoeing, you should be comfortable and prepared. Here are some tips to help you get started:
• Wear light clothing and possibly a comfortable bathing suit in case you get splashed or wet.
• Get a hat to stay cool and to protect you from the sun.
• Make sure that you wear shoes that don’t come off easily. If you would like to wear sandals or flip-flops, make sure they can be secured in the back.
• Bring a change of clothes with you so that you have dry clothes to slip into when you leave the river.
• Tie down anything that you don’t want to lose. This will ensure that you don’t lose anything if the canoe happens to tip over.
• Check the canoe before getting it into water to make sure there are no holes or any other signs of damage.
• Make sure that you are in possession of flotation devices and other important gear before getting on the water.
• Load the canoe properly. Keeping the weight low and evenly distributed will allow for maximum manoeuvrability on the water.

Canoeing can be a very rewarding and relaxing experience; especially when you are with good friends. If you are planning on doing this activity, taking precautions will ensure that you have a safe, fun, and comfortable time.

What to do at Intundla

What to do at Intundla Black Bass Fishing at its Best

What to do at Intundla besides the obvious which is, of course, a lot of relaxation!

If you haven't visited Intundla yet, then what you need to know is that the Lodge is built around a magnificently beautiful dam. This dam is truly something to behold and looks different every single day. So for one thing, you will never get tired of the views at Intundla, from your room, from the pool and bar area next to the dam, or from the exquisite Bush Spa. But the dam isn't only for viewing and once you get hooked on the fishing... (mind the pun)

Black Bass Fishing at Intundla What a Catch!

Think about those lazy summer days, drink in hand, just taking life easy. Well, we know just how to make that happen for you, and we can do even better than that. We'll also give you a helping hand (not literally) with your fishing.

Here are some tips we've picked up from some very (and some not so) experienced fisherman. Promise no fishing stories!

Firstly get the wind on your face. Bass always swim with the current, so it’s better for them to find your bait before they find your boat. (or canoes are excellent for this job)

Blunt hooks won't cut it because Bass are boney jawed devils.

Make sure your worms have had a beating and they'd be more likely to be spotted as bait for the Bass, but leave a little fight in them to work as proper ambush material.

Don't give up! Hey sometimes you're in the right spot, with perfect bait, just keep at it!

We have some awesome Holiday Weekend Specials but Book Now or this might just be the ONE that got away!

Intundla Celebrates

Intundla Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary after the devastating fire at the Game Lodge

Intundla celebrates 10 years since our new beginning!

In September Intundla Celebrates the 10 Year Anniversary of the devastating fire at the Game Lodge. It was a Sunday morning on the 2nd September 2007, when Teneale du Plessis received that dreadful call with only a few piercing words... "it's burning, it's all gone."

Watching the Lodge burn

So started the panic of that horrible day! At the lodge, some of the guests helped the staff remove furniture from the conference rooms and equipment from the reception area. Some even climbed on the roofs of the chalets in an effort to wet the thatch with garden hoses. Soon though, the gas bottles started exploding and everyone had to retreat to the other side of the dam. From where we simply watched the beautiful lodge burn to the ground within an hour.

Power surge caused the fire

It was later discovered that the fire was started by a power surge. After the initial damage to the Game Lodge and Conference Venue, the fire continued to rage, turning into a 3-day veld fire. The fire threatening to come back and burn what little was left.

Wedding Chapel stood untouched

Once the larger flames had died down and the smoke had disappeared a clear image of the untouched Wedding Chapel with its beautiful garden was an unbelievable site to behold. The path of the fire was clear to be seen and had somehow left the chapel and surrounding garden untouched! This Wedding Chapel still stands today, and many happy couples have said "I DO" in this chapel since then.

Rebuilding

As we rebuilt, all our staff; housekeepers, chef's, barmen, duty managers, everyone was available to help restore the beautiful lodge. Six months after the fire the Lodge and Conference Venue outside Pretoria was once again open for business.

With grateful hearts

In September every year, we remember the scorching heat of that day and the additional heat of the fire and how we had to start over. Today we are grateful we have come so far after this crippling event. Today we celebrate our beautiful bush venue and what Intundla has become!

Team Strategy Day The Great Escape for Successful Dynamics

Team Strategy Day The Great Escape

Team Strategy Day The Great Escape

Team Strategy Day The Great Escape. It is tough doing the same thing over and over, every day. Still stay focused and energised. Even if you have a very exciting job. Which offers different nuances on a daily basis. You will still get environment or office fatigue.

New Dynamics Fresh Strategy

The main idea behind the Great Escape is that the leader and the team use this day out to experience new dynamics. Something completely different from the norm, which they can take back to the office. A fresh dynamic and brand new strategy. The best way to achieve this is by stepping outside of your comfort zone. Going into a relaxed environment and getting to know your team mates on a more personal level.

Clarify your Goals

It is important to decide beforehand what your main goal for the Great Escape is. For example, if the goal of the day is to encourage all team members to be more participative. Then it would be helpful to get everyone's ideas about the structure of the day's proceedings during the planning process. If the goal is to clarify roles and responsibilities. You need to be very clear about this in the preparation of the day, and of course on the day itself.

Encourage New Dynamics

Be careful not to let the team’s old dynamics limit or influence the new dynamics that you are trying to create. For instance, some of your team might be prone to not speak up and challenge others inside the office environment. They will probably do so even on your great escape. This is why you need a strategy on your day out. Encourage them to discuss and debate with others on their perspectives. Then you are forming a new dynamic in the process.

Choose Team Building Activities that Build

The type of activity you choose matters. You want an activity that actually builds the team. Intundla offers many such team building activities. One that genuinely builds a sense of interdependence and collaboration is cooking a meal together. And then eating it together as a group. Our potjiekos competition in the Boma at Intundla is designed for this purpose.  This might sound primitive. But when people gather and cook together. And then also share a meal together. They become allies rather than adversaries.

Mexican Themed Dinner – a laid-back south-of-the-border Bash at Intundla

Mexican themed dinners are the most fun, or, as one of our guests remarked - frikking amazing! And getting the venue ready is a blast too because for once we don’t have to worry about anything clashing. It’s hard to go overboard when it comes to a Mexican party, and the bolder the colours the better!  So this is exactly what we did for a recent client, Anchor Yeast, for their Event at Intundla - a Mexican celebration, with decorations in hot pink, aqua, and lime, and any other bright and bold colour we could find, and of course we paired the bold décor with matching bright flavours on the menu for our guests. As they arrived, we kept them happy with quesadillas, chips, and guacamole, all washed down with some ice cold Coronas.

Mexican Slang you need to know before your themed dinner

Wey - Only used amongst good friends (which we'll all be after your themed dinner at Intundla), and could mean anything like dude/friend/buddy/you're-the-man. Use it like no wey man! And hey wey!

Estoy crudo - this is not really slang, but a phrase you'll probably use the day after your themed dinner at Intundla, meaning I'm hungover.

Que padre - This you'll use a lot when you tell others about Intundla, and means that’s awesome/really good!

Need an Epic Event for your Team?

We host themed dinners that will blow them away!

Most Popular Wedding Venue in Pretoria

Intundla Game Lodge & Bush Spa is in the heart of the Dinokeng Big 5 Game Reserve, just a short drive from Pretoria, but far enough outside the busy city to feel the peace and tranquility of the bushveld. The lodge is built around a dam and is a feast for sore (and probably overworked) eyes! Indulge yourself in the beauty of the Game Lodge surroundings and at the end of another magical day in Africa say a toast to the setting sun from our pool deck. These stunning aerial photographs were taken at a recent wedding held at Intundla and boast the magnitude of the abundant greenery after the rain we've had.

team-building-activities-drumming

Drumming as a Team Building Activity – an ancient art remains a very effective tool

The sound of drums stirs up something ancient and primeval, connecting with our subconscious and emotions without checking in with our conscious processes and barriers first. Team Building with drums bypasses inhibitions and creates a platform for effective communication to take place.

Drumming reduces stress

The rhythmic beat of the drums, the feel of the skins and the vibrations allow for individuals to fade into a collective, cohesive group releasing their tension as they let go of their daily worries.

Breaking down barriers

When we are occupied or engrossed in something as consuming as keeping the beat, we stop thinking about ourselves and become more comfortable focusing on the needs of the group. Barriers are broken down - hierarchy, background, gender, race and language, levelling the field and allowing new and stronger connections to be forged.

Cooperation and communication

The beat of the drum has long been used to communicate messages over distances. While this language has faded largely into time, drumming sessions are very effective in setting the scene for further Team Building Activities. When the group is working in unison, where everyone is involved in the process, they will be more accessible, attentive and receptive to instruction and taking on-board new ideas.

Productivity increases

Stress, fear, uncertainty, negativity, self-doubt are all productivity killers. Drumming releases people of these burdens and allows them to realise that they achieved something good as part of a team. Further challenges will be met with more positive attitude as a result of the increased moral achieved during a drumming session.

Client feedback: Just a note to say a massive THANK YOU to the whole team at Intundla. We had a wonderful conference and everyone loved the venue! It's professional, yet relaxed, and the service was great. Staff are all friendly and helpful and the setting is just beautiful. Thank you again!   - Brigitte | Thoughtworks
